I’m thrilled to visit schools, libraries, and festivals.

I live near Atlanta, GA, but I’m willing to travel.

I’m also working out my system for virtual appearances via Skype online video conferencing. This will be a great way for readers everywhere who might not otherwise get a chance to interact with me. I’ll add more info here as available.

In addition to any travel and board expenses (see below), I ask a basic fee of $300 per day (less for a virtual visit). This fee is negotiable in some circumstances. I don’t require a deposit, but do require full payment in advance or on the day of the visit.

I'll do up to three sessions of roughly 45 minutes which consists of a reading and a Q&A/discussion.

Since my work is written to be suitable for kids 8 or 9 all the way up to adult, my presentation is different for each age group. My talks to younger students tend to be about characters and cool stuff and various random and wonderful things, but my talks with older kids and adults tend to focus a lot on the life and job of a writer. Whatever you'd like to do, I'm flexible.

It would be great to pre-sell any books the kids want. It's usually good to have some copies for the library or classrooms too for the kids who're interested after the visit but unable to get their own copies. I can provide the stock as long as I have at least a week or two of notice. With enough notice, I can have the books to you in advance so the kids who want to can read it before the visit and be well prepared for the discussion.

It's usually best for me to sign the books during a time set apart for that, so it doesn't take away from the time the kids have with me during the sessions. This can either be a separate time where the kids can line up and I sign face to face, or just me in a broom closet with the books and notes about who I'm signing them for.

Unfortunately, I can’t allow you to record my presentation. Photos are fine, and I'll be happy to let you record a video or audio interview or any informal interaction with the students.

LOCAL VISITS

I live in Dekalb County, GA, inside the I-285 perimeter around Atlanta. I’m happy to do one-day visits to schools up to 50 miles from Decatur (let’s figure this from the Decatur courthouse at 101 East Court Square so we have a solid standard of measurement). There will be no boarding fees, though outside of metro Atlanta I'll ask that you cover the gas for the drive.

For trips between 50-100 miles from Decatur, I require gas money and a $25/day stipend to cover my meals while driving to and from your location.

LONGER DRIVES

Farther out, beyond 100 miles from Decatur, I require $25/day for meals, overnight accommodations, and a minimum booking of two days. (This can be two different locations in the same area or two days worth of visits at one location.)

OUT OF STATE

I will do out-of-state author visits, with a two-day minimum booking. In addition to my daily fee ($300/day), the cost will include $25/day for meals, airfare from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta (ATL), and lodgings. I'll also need local transportation (I don't do rental cars).

SCHEDULING

I don't have any particular time frame or restrictions for scheduling visits. If my schedule is open when you want me to come, whether that be soon or not-so-soon, we can talk.
